In an exclusive interview for with another style icon, the designer/sexologist Betony Vernon, Dita explains she wants “to stay true to the history of American burlesque, as it was in the 30s and 40s,” but also wants burlesque to evolve “with certain different technology, and costumes, set scenery and even music.” She adds: “A lot of people are misunderstanding what it [burlesque] is about, trying to take away the striptease and the element of risqué and make it just a fashion style.” For this reason, it’s important to excite the interest on the past of this form of entertainment.
